General Manager of Innovation

Since its beginning over 47 years ago, CARDONE has grown from six employees into the largest privately-held automotive parts remanufacturer in the world. Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, CARDONE now employs over 6,000 employees with additional facilities in California, Texas, Mexico and Canada.

This position will lead CARDONE’s global innovation strategies, ensuring that all levels of the organization are embracing key behaviors that foster creativity.  As part of that, this position will also set and drive the strategies and tactics for Innovation product development and introduction to the marketplace .This is a key strategic position for the future of CARDONE Industries. The successful candidate will be responsible to introduce cultural change, provide best practice in innovation & new product development disciplines and processes for the Company. Also create a new portfolio of products and intellectual property to be distributed globally to our present customer base and potential new customers and channels. 


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet and exceed targets for Revenue and Ebitda aggressive growth for the Innovation business unit.
  • Manage Innovation Business Unit P&L.
  • Lead team to introduce “first to market” innovations ahead of competition
  • Develop and implement a broad, inclusive platform for sharing ideas and facilitating constant new product and process innovation.
  • Lead a product innovation group tasked with ongoing exploration and development of new product and business ideas.
  • Lead a product execution group tasked with taking the ideas generated in the innovation group through vetting, testing, piloting, launching and then hand-off, once stable, to the appropriate General Manager for on-going execution.
  • Develop company-wide brainstorming tools.
  • Develop and roll-out training for all leadership on innovation and new product development best practices.
  • Lead a unified product development process by managing internal and external resources, across countries and functions.
  • Must have clearly defined understanding of safety and non-safety critical products and experience with risk analysis for new product introductions.
  • Experienced with relationships and transitions between remanufactured products and buying new.
  • Automotive Remanufacturing as a core competency is a plus
  • Automotive aftermarket experience is preferred.
  • Able to continually improve design process from idea phase, through product implementation and execution.
  • Create solutions to product design challenges with constraints on cost, quality and performance.
  • Deliver product designs which meet performance and cost criteria within budget and timetable.
  • Select, manage and maintain relationships with high quality, professional service
  • providers.
  • Develop marketing and distribution strategy to complement and co-exist with existing product portfolio.
  • Manage evaluation and development of new product manufacturing alliances and sourcing relationships.
  • Lead a high performing internal team of development and technical staff to develop compelling new products.
  • Develop a performance oriented culture.
  • Assist the senior management team in the formulation of company strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence other direct and indirect employees.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of BA/BS with 10 + years of experience; MBA & technical undergraduate preferred.
  • Solid experience in directing a creative product development team, preferably in the automotive parts industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full product development lifecycle, including product/category market analysis, conceptual crafting, patent assessment, product line development, costing, prototyping, spec development, sourcing/product launch.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Strong blend of analytical, decision-making and creative problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication including outstanding presentation skills
