Qualifications and Skills

Education: BS Degree in Electrical engineering or appropriate field


  • 3-5 years of Automotive test system design
  • Experience in the automotive industry, preferably electrical design area
  • Experience working with automotive communication protocols
  • Five years of experience in the areas of design, and programming associated with electrical and control equipment in the control and automation of various industrial processes related to manufacturing applications.
  • LabView Programming Experience. C, C++, Visual Basic or other programming languages a plus. Industrial electrical / controls experience, using PLCs. (Preferably, Unitronics, Omron, Allen Bradley)
  • Developing detailed electrical design documentation in AutoCAD for test systems control - wiring diagrams, component layout, instrument installation etc

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with LabView Programming
  • Proficiency with various PLC’s, writing PLC Programming, Ladder Logic, etc.
  • Proficiency with National Instrument Data Acquisition hardware.
  • Proficiency with integrating various control systems, e.g., PC, PLC, Microprocessor, microcontroller, etc.
  • Proficiency in the application of automotive communication protocols, CAN, LIN, etc.
  • Proficiency with all MS office applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, Access,
  • Proficiency in digital and analog electronics circuits and PCB design skills
  • Must be able to generate drawing schematics and control panel design with 110, 208, 480vac power wiring and DC control circuits.
  • Must possess skills in specification analysis, instrumentation specification, project management, and hands on electrical controls engineering.
  • Technical writing capability for documentation, manuals etc.
  • Knowledge of industry electrical standards and specifications.
  • Knowledge in Safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to function independently in a self-directed, goal-oriented environment


  • Directs and coordinates electrical engineering activities concerned with development, procurement, installation and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices
  • Confers with manufacturing, engineering and technical personnel to resolve equipment problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation
  • Analyzes and interprets test data and prepares technical reports for use by electrical engineering and management personnel
  • Analyzes equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods
  • Determines feasibility of designing new plant equipment or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors
  • Designs power and control circuitry and document in schematics
  • Directs and coordinates electrical engineering activities concerned with development, procurement, installation and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices
  • Maintains communication with requesters concerning the status of project development
  • Directs or assists in fabrication and debug of equipment
  • Compiles system documentation including but limited to calibration and maintenance procedures and operation manual as required
  • Trains others in operation, maintenance and calibration procedures
  • Well organized with good communication skills
